A herbal approach for enhancing bone fracture healing
With a ratio of 3 accidental cases every 3 seconds reported by International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), that results in a bone fracture, researchers and high-end product developers are keen in developing a fast and effective way of healing the bone fracture that would enable the patients to recover fast from the accidental state. With this scenario prevailing, the conventional methods although providing a better relief are not found to be quicker.

In India, the most common treatment followed by any individual for bone fracture would be the traditional Putturkattu. With years passed by, a change in this healing process is in high demand. With demand existing in the society, researchers are actively engaging themselves in attributing a research that paves a far better bone fracture healing process that could extensively replace the conventional methods. A replacement for this would be the use of formulating a nanogel with all the constituents that would favour in a quicker healing process.

Attracting customers would be easier if the nanogel is herbal-based rather than chemicals-based. Any fracture comprises four physiological problems such as dislocation of bones, severe pain, swelling, and infection. Hence, the nanogel should have all the properties of fracture healing, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. Four plants, Ficus religiosa (Arasamaram), Cissus quadrangularis (Pirandai), Terminalia arjuna (Arjuna tree) and Commiphora mukul (Guggul), that are widely found throughout India in almost all the seasons are found to have these properties. The extracts of these four plants in addition to some nano chemicals can be formulated as a nanogel that can enhance the fracture healing process of the traditional ‘Putturkattu’.
